Andrea Stachniewicz – Columbia University
Andrea Stachniewicz is a New York native and proud Columbia University alumni. Holding a Masters of Education in Counseling Psychology, Andrea prides herself in helping others to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. Andrea is a Mental Health Counselor at a non for profit organization in the greater New York area. As a Mental Health Counselor, she provides one on one counseling to individuals diagnosed with severe and pervasive mental illness. Deriving great meaning through her work, she has dedicated her career to empowering others, guiding her clients to find their inner strength and to overcome adversity. In 2015, Andrea struggled to find her own inner strength after a close family member had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Andrea, who would formerly describe herself as an “avid gym goer”, but never as an “athlete”, began running as a way to cope with her own feelings of hopelessness while supporting her family member. Through running, Andrea found her own inner strength and before long, began participating in 5k’s and eventually a half marathon. This November, she plans to run all five boroughs in the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon. As a strong believer in the power of turning a negative situation into a positive one, Andrea plans on “giving back” by running the New York City Marathon with the American Cancer Society (ACS) and has been working towards her fundraising goal of $1,000.
